Phil & Ted's Kiwi Explorer Buggy

This AMAZING buggy comes straight from New Zealand.  It is a versatile, rugged, all-terrain vehicle that handles the roughest outdoor trips, then heads to the mall with class!  It is a single or a double, works for a newborn, toddler, toddler+newborn, and toddler+toddler.  Although some consider it fiddly to fold, it well makes up for it with its versatility.  While some go for single and double all-terrain models in their stables, this particular vehicle does double duty.  I appreciate the additional value of not having to repurchase when I go from 1 to 2 riders or back down to 1!

It also has great accessories. I have the Double Deluxe kit which includes the stroller, second seat, newborn wings, newborn mattress, raincover, and backpack. I have also purchased the child lifter (soft bassinet), the single raincover, the single raincover, and the panier bags. My favorite accessory is the panier bags which act like saddlebags, adding stability to the stroller.

I was pleasantly surprised this summer with this buggy. We went a variety of places with the kids, and handled all of them with the Kiwi.  We managed sight seeing in DC's museums and historic districts, rugged State Parks, the National Zoo, and of course our vacation to Disney!

It was wonderful hiking the 2 miles each way to the beach of extremely rugged terrain on repeated outings to a state park outside of Washington, DC. The paniers held our snacks, swim suits, and lots of other stuff. The sunshade kept the bugs and amazed strangers away from our kids. They even napped along the way! Some of the trail sections were so narrow, that the Kiwi at 25 inches wide, barely fit- I was so glad to have chosen the Kiwi as my double over the other popular NZ urban terrain double. Since a side-by-side is going to be a few inches wider (minimum of 29 inches), we would have certainly been stuck along the trail forcing us to cancel our outings.

At Disney we used it for the kids during the entire week in the park. It managed beautifully on the public transportation (had to be collapsed for buses, but not for trams), went in and out of stores, managed to easily navigate crowds, all the while it kept the kids comfy. We brought an umbrella stroller too, which did not see the light of day the whole time there! I would bring it in a second as it was so easy to push, even up and down hills.

Please feel free to ask me any questions, as I think you won't buy a better buggy!!

The new model of the Kiwi is the E3, so if you have problems finding an Explorer model, look for the E3.  To see the Explorer vs. the E3 pictoral comparison click on the following links (or use the navigational bar).

You can see my tall 4.5 year old still has quite a bit of room in the front seat of the buggy! Below- at 5 she still is comfy in it.

Panier bags hold tons! The navy ones are the older style of Phil and Ted's paniers. The new ones only come in Charcoal and have a mesh cupholder on the sides. (Above pictures)

As you can see the Kiwi offers comfortable seating for 2!  The green Kiwi Explorer is now living elsewhere, but I use the Navy Kiwi Explorer constantly. The Explorer and E3 can be seen together on the comparison pages 1 & 2.
